"The Dzogchen way of dealing with conceptual proliferation is seeing its emptiness. The gradual path is in giving up things as if they were real. But the ultimate goal is the same. In Dzogchen one sees then that anger, etc, is just a thought manifestation and thus illusory--it arises and self-liberates--and so there is no need to try to get rid of or chase after an illusion in order to be happy."

Hi Dan

Love this picture and the words you wrote. I see The Dali Lama in the background. you know this might sound a bit wierd.. but have you noticed that a lot of monks have those shaped ears? I see the shape of the monks ears in the photo here...The Dali Lama has ears shaped like that too. Its so strange but i see it a lot!

Maybe their ears take on a certain shape from listening to silence, Kathy. Nice to hear from you, from out of your silent heart. I can feel my ears changing shape...

Dan and Kathy...nice exchange. Need more of this over here at AD.

Simon and Garfunkel should do a sequel to Sounds of Silences called Pointy-eared Monks of Silence.

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
Monks hearing with pointy ears
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence

Sounds VERY familiar. I like the ring of the words...could be a CSN&Y adaptation?

How are your ears?
