and what a ride it has been... at least what "i" can remember of it...

Well, the human tendency is not to believe things until they are seen. So if a body is a tangible thing they can see, then it must be them, and surely they must exist. And of course then the ultimate anxiety when one has attached self to body is the prospect of ceasing to exist the day the body stops.
